MEETING MINUTES 03/17/2014

3/26/2014

Hello everyone,
Here is a brief meeting recap of the SDA meeting on 3/17:

Nate reminded us of the scholarships that are available through the California Dietetics Association. The deadline is approaching soon (April 21), so don't forget to apply if you are interested! There are several scholarships that the CDA offers, more information on each one can be found at http://www.dietitian.org/d_cdaf/cdaf_outreach.html

Another scholarship is available through SFSU for recent SFSU graduates who have applied for dietetic internships for $750. The Krohn DI Scholarship deadline is May 1, and a pdf application can be found here: http://cfsd.sfsu.edu/sites/sites7.sfsu.edu.cfsd/files/KrohnScholarApplications2014.pdf

Candice Howarth, a holistic nutritionist gave a wonderful presentation on the difference between the holistic path through nutrition compared with the path to become an RD. She gave us insight for career options in the field of nutrition if someone decided to take a different path other than going through a dietetic internship to become an RD. Candice is in the process of starting her own private practice/business, and offers a variety of services including one-on-one counseling, private cooking classes, kitchen clean outs, amongst several others. Visit her website www.candicehowarth.com to explore more about what Candice offers, or to get in contact with her!

Candice also teaches classes on juicing vs. blending at Workshop, a venue in San Francisco that offers a variety of fun and affordable DIY classes. Interested in signing up for a fun and informational class? Visit http://www.workshopsf.org/?page_id=140&id=2017

RDs have the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), but what do holistic nutritionists have? The National Association of Nutrition Professionals www.nanp.org/

We hope you all have a wonderful spring break! See you at the next meeting in April!
