Welcome new and old members to our very first SDA general meeting! We were all very impressed by the amazing turn out today. We are looking forward to an exciting year with everyone! Here's a recap from today's meeting: If you were unable to pay membership fees today, please contact Maha, the treasurer, and do so when you get the chance. It is $15 for one semester or $20 for the year. Save the date: Saturday, October 26th from 8:30-3 will be the Dietetic Internship Workshop, held in BH 236. It will be excellent chance for graduating seniors to learn about the DI application process, learn tips on how to strengthen your resume and personal statement, as well as a chance to network with current dietetic interns. Space is limited, so please emailsda.sfstate@gmail.com to RSVP. The DI workshop is free for SDA members and $15 donation for non-members. There are many ways to get involved in SDA events as discussed by our committee leaders earlier. Farmer's market, balanced beings, the community garden, BADA events, and contributing to the newsletter are all great ways to contribute. Please emailsda.sfstate@gmail.com for contact information for the committee leaders. Lastly, our guest speaker, Dan Fenyvesi, RD spoke about an excellent volunteer opportunity in Nicaragua. He showed photos and discussed issues in Latino health, primarily obesity and chronic disease, both locally and in Nicaragua. He was recently awarded a Fulbright grant to join the faculty at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua (UNAN) Managua where he will, over the course of 2014 teach courses on health and work with the student health clinic. To find out more about his work, visit his website www.foodsobriety.net or contact him directly: dfenyvesi@hotmail.com Check the calendar or follow us on Facebook for upcoming events. We are looking forward to a great year, thank you all! ![]()
